Charles Murray criticized the "narrow elite" as being out of touch with "ordinary Americans." But if there’s an objective moral landscape, the elites could be objectively right and the common people wrong. Murray wants the secretary of commerce to empathize with the priorities of a truck driver, but if those priorities are "keep Mexicans out because they threaten my job" and "the police should crack down on blacks because they’re all criminals" then they are lower on the landscape and we should ignore them. Some beliefs really are deplorable. Do you agree?
